Different Denture Treatments
Immediate/Complete Denture
Complete dentures are placed in your mouth immediately after all your teeth are removed.
Depending on the patient and the technique, a complete denture can take us between 6 to 12 weeks to complete. First, we take an impression of the upper and lower arches of your mouth to establish your dental structure. We then help you select the shape and colour of your denture teeth.
During the next visit, we check the appearance and functionality of the dentures. Sometimes it is necessary to repeat this step to ensure that everything is works for you.
After fit and appearance are to your liking, we send the denture for fabrication. We remove the remaining teeth and deliver the denture.
Stayplate/Temporary Denture
A stayplate or temporary denture will replace the missing tooth or teeth and can help you with your chewing and speaking until a more permanent solution is achieved. This type of denture is a treatment to prevent existing teeth from shifting in your mouth and creating bigger problems. Stayplates are made using a similar process to partial dentures.
Partial Denture
Partial dentures can be taken in and out of your mouth. They consist of a denture base, which can resemble the colour of your gums, as well as denture teeth, which are attached to a supporting framework. Partial dentures attach to your existing teeth via a clasp or some other retentive device.
Making a partial denture requires about 6-8 weeks. We begin by preparing the supporting teeth. Next, we take an impression of the upper and lower arches of your mouth.
At the subsequent visits, we check the appearance and function of the partial denture teeth and gums.
There are other options for supporting partial dentures in your smile as well. One such advance is an implant-supporting partial denture that gives additional support to the partial denture. There are also partial dentures that use a special material called valplast. Consult with a professional who can determine the right denture for you.
